Q. What is rubberwood?

A. Rubberwood is one of the more sustainable and eco-friendly woods used in toy manufacturing today. The name, Rubberwood, can invoke some misconceptions with regards to its features and durability. It does, in fact, have a dense grain character offering very little shrinkage, therefore, making it one of the more stable construction materials for toys. Rubberwood is a sap producing species and it produces all the latex used in the world for rubber based products. After the useful latex yield of the tree, which is approximately 25-30 years, the tress are felled and new ones are planted. Unlike other timbers which are cut down solely to be used in industry, the rubberwood is only used once it completes its latex producing cycle and dies. It is then used rather than going to waste. Rubberwood should not be misunderstood when it comes to its quality features.
